Relive the classic off-road experience

Motocross Madness is a free-to-play racing game from Rainbow Studios and Microsoft Studios. This re-release lets you enjoy the classic motocross experience originally released in 1998. At the time of its release, it was known for its impressive realism. Race around various off-road tracks and experience responsive terrain, audio, and its depiction of wrecks.

Although the graphics and sound effects are considered dated by modern gaming standards, Motocross Madness has earned its place. It’s also worth a shot if you’re looking for some retro motocross experience. You can also check Road Rash, MotoGP 18, or Bike Stunt 2.

Beat time record and survive wrecks

The premise of Motocross Madness is straightforward, you race against other computer players across various race tracks. You have stadium dirt tracks and off-road stretches, each presenting different challenges and opportunities for you to show off. You can perform various tricks and stunts using its keyboard controls. At the time of its release, it was considered very realistic in terms of how the wrecks and collisions are presented.

Even for a game released in 1998, this game has always featured smooth animation, something players can appreciate even today. This makes motorcycle handling a fun experience. Paired with the visual efforts for realism, makes it worth crashing on purpose. Since most levels are dirt tracks, you create clouds of dust and leave trails as you move along. Even the soundtrack works toward this goal.

Content-wise, there are enough levels to go on for hours, with 35 tracks and events for you to conquer. At this point, the only concern is that its visuals and soundtrack no longer hold up against modern standards. Aside from that, it’s all retro fun. The game even contains a couple of cheat codes and fun easter eggs, including the now-infamous invisible slingshot for players going out of bounds.

A timeless classic in the racing genre

Despite being released so long ago, Motocross Madness remains as enjoyable as it was when it first came out. Although the graphics and audio are considered dated, the gameplay and animation are still on point. It lets you race through 35 tracks and events, whether you want to win all of them, try out the best stunts available, or just push other racers into the dirt.
